Compact, sturdy, likeable and full of symbolism, no other vehicle is as closely connected with the history of modern Germany as the Trabant. Since 1990, Herpa has already produced several hundred thousand examples of the Trabant as quality models in the 1/87 scale – making the Trabi one of the most successful miniature models of all time. Hardly any other historic vehicle stirs so much interest and emotions even today - which is why Herpa started the Initiative “newTrabi” for the Trabant’s 50th anniversary in 2007.

At first, Herpa purchased the copyright of the „Trabant“ brand from the Trabant-Register e.V. society and developed the draft of a possible Trabant remake. In 2007, this “newTrabi” model was presented at the IAA in the 1/10 scale. Due to the worldwide positive echo, the “Initative newTrabi” advanced and became a project. Herpa convinced competent partners who started to design a newTrabi concept car with a lot of dedication.

The automobile designer Nils Poschwatta was so convinced by the project that he even gave up his interesting job with VW. Out of enthusiasm for the newTrabi, he decided to devote himself to the project full-time and came up with the entire design-work for the “Trabant nT”. Ronald Gerschewski, CEO of IndiKar Individual Karosseriebau GmbH and his network partner from the Autoland Saxony have succeeded in developing the concept car for a modern Trabant successor: At the IAA 2009, the “Trabant nT” will be premiered. It is supposed to be an eye-catcher with history and charm and to set a trend as an electric city cruiser.
